Last Updated:July 07, 2026, 20:30 ISTRepresentational image (Image: News18)New Delhi, Jul 7 (PTI) United Breweries Ltd (UBL), part of the world’s second-largest brewer HEINEKEN Company, contributed Rs 43,000 crore to India’s economy in FY 2024-25, according to a socio-economic impact study. This includes a tax payment of Rs 30,600 crore across the value chain, providing a stable revenue base supporting public finances, said the report by Steward Redqueen, an Amsterdam, Netherlands-based global impact and sustainability consultancy. It is equivalent to “1. 3 per cent of total state tax revenues" and “0. 1 per cent of the GDP", said the report, which was released on Tuesday here. “For every Rs 100 spent on beer by consumers, approximately Rs 63 flows to state governments, supporting public services and infrastructure across states," it added. In 2024-25, UBL purchased Rs 6,900 crore worth of goods and services from domestic suppliers, including Rs 700 crore spent on agricultural sourcing from Indian farmers. On the employment front, the company’s own operations supported 9,368 jobs — comprising 2,910 UBL employees, 400 estimated jobs at contract brewing units, and 6,058 contract workers. An additional 2,86,000 jobs were supported indirectly across the value chain, the report said. The study noted that for every one person employed directly at UBL, an estimated 31 additional employment opportunities were supported across the wider economy. While sharing the split of Rs 43,000 crore, the report said UBL directly generated Rs 15,200 crore in value added in India. UBL MD & CEO Vivek Gupta said: “Over 93 per cent of our procurements worth Rs 6,900 crore are sourced domestically, supporting Indian farmers, MSMEs and local manufacturing. This includes Rs 700 crore of agriculture sourcing, highlighting the strong link with farmers and Indian agriculture and beer. " Heineken took a controlling interest in UBL in June 2021. The Dutch brewer raised its stake from 46. 5% to 61. 5% by acquiring the pledged shares of the previous chairman Vijay Mallya’s stake from the Debt Recovery Tribunal. UBL is a leading player in the domestic market with brands such as Kingfisher, Kalyani Black B Bullet, Maharaja Premium Indian Pilsner and Taj Mahal Premium. Besides, it also sells beer under brands such as Heineken, Amstel Bier, Sol etc from the portfolio of the Dutch brewing major.
