The huge sum the Mouth of the Tyne Festival is set to bring to the local economy

What's OnMusic & NightlifeMouth Of The Tyne FestivalNorth Tyneside Council expects this year's festival to have boosted the local economy to the tune of over £1m. 20:34, 13 Jul 2026This year’s 21st Mouth of the Tyne Festival is anticipated to have generated over £1 million for the local economy, as the council crunches the numbers. ‌The local authority expects that the four-day musical extravaganza, which was hosted at Tynemouth Priory, has lined the pockets of local businesses and boosted the local economy by over £1 million. The shin-dig showcased the musical talents of The K’s, Ministry of Sound Classical, Self Esteem, and Heidi Curtis, many supported by special guests. ‌Councillor Carl Johnson, Deputy Mayor ofNorth Tyneside, said: “The Mouth of the Tyne Festival is one of the North East’s biggest success stories. Born and bred here in North Tyneside, it now generates more than £1 million for the local economy and puts our borough on the national stage, attracting visitors from across the UK and around the world. ‌“This year’s festival once again showcased the very best of North Tyneside, giving local businesses a welcome boost and creating an unforgettable weekend for residents and visitors alike. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success. ”Tynemouth councillor Tom Bailey added: ”I am genuinely grateful to the council staff who worked so hard over the weekend to organise it. ”‌Coun Bailey continued: “It is great to see all of the businesses on Front Street making the most of it, and it clearly does an awful lot for the local economy. ”This marks at least the second year in a row that the Mouth of the Tyne Festival has generated a seven-figure boost for local businesses. Last year, the local authority estimated a £1m boost based on ground surveys in which festival attendees were asked how much they had spent. In 2025, approximately 30% of respondents reported parting with more than £30. That data was then multiplied by the festival’s visitor count using a conservative multiplier.
