US-Iran war and the West Asia theatreIran has set new and significant conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and the UAE reported that one of its ships was targeted by an Iranian missile. Meanwhile, Yemen’s military attacked Iran-backed Houthi rebels, and Turkey’s parliament approved a bill aimed at advancing the Kurdish peace process. The 60-day period for negotiating a final agreement is set to expire in a little over a week, although the deadline could still be extended. Iran has also indicated that it is close to a separate agreement with Oman on arrangements to manage navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, which exists between the two countries. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday that Tehran is close to reaching an agreement on navigation, specifically on the designation of a transit route. However, he said that reopening the waterway would depend on the fulfillment of additional conditions and blamed the current situation on the US violation of the interim agreement. Crude oil pricesCrude oil prices have been a key determinant, perhaps the most significant one, since the war broke out between the SU and Iran. Brent crude oil prices rose more than $1 a barrel on Friday as uncertainty persisted over ongoing talks aimed at securing control of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz shipping route and helping it reopen. Brent crude futures rose $1. 06, or 1. 3%, to close at $83. 55 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures rose 89 cents, or 1. 15% to settle at $78. 18 a barrel. Oil prices fell earlier this week as hopes grew for a possible resolution to the conflict. However, prices have continued to fluctuate amid changing expectations since the US and Israel jointly attacked the country in late February, triggering a conflict that is now in its sixth month. FII flowsForeign Institutional Investors (FIIs) turned net buyers in Indian equities on Friday, halting their brief selling spree, according to provisional stock exchange data. FIIs bought shares worth Rs 12,941. 31 crore while selling equities worth Rs 12,461. 07 crore, marking a net investment of Rs 480. 24 crore during the session. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) also maintained their buying momentum and recorded a net inflow of Rs 235. 56 crore, buying equities worth Rs 15,679. 58 crore and selling shares worth Rs 15,444. 02 crore. Deputy vice president, research, Bajaj Broking, Pabitro Mukherjee, the continued buying by both FIIs and DIIs was mainly due to the easing of geopolitical tensions, which strengthened investor confidence and created a positive sentiment in the market.
