Patreon layoffs 2026: Company cuts 20% workforce, 93 jobs affected amid AI changesNew Delhi:Patreon is laying off 20% of its workforce as the creator subscription platform restructures teams and reduces operating costs. The cuts affect 93 employees, CEO Jack Conte said in a staff memo published by the company on Thursday, July 23. Conte said Patreon’s core business remains strong and consistent, but rapid changes across technology and the creator economy have pushed the company to rethink its structure. The layoffs are Patreon’s biggest since 2022, when it cut about 80 jobs, representing 17% of its workforce, and closed offices in Berlin and Dublin. Patreon says layoffs are not about replacing workers with AIAI played a part in the wider changes affecting Patreon’s operations, according to Conte. He said the technology has changed how companies build products, organise teams and communicate. “AI has fundamentally transformed the tech industry,” Conte wrote, adding that the pace of change has “never been more intense. ”He made it clear that Patreon does not see AI tools as direct replacements for the employees losing their jobs. “To be clear about the impact of AI on today’s decision: we are not making the above changes because we believe AI replaces humans,” Conte wrote. “The more we have learned to use these new tools, the clearer it has become that they are not substitutes for the creativity, judgment, detail orientation, or craftsmanship that our teammates have in spades, nor do they replace the desire for human connection that all of us cherish so deeply. ”Conte said AI still affects how Patreon operates and organises its teams. The company will flatten its management structure and redirect resources to areas such as creator tools, fan experiences and audience growth. Patreon recently said podcasters on its platform generated $629 million in revenue during 2025, up 33% from the previous year. The platform hosts creators across podcasts, video, entertainment and other digital formats. The layoffs arrive days after Patreon partnered with Cloudflare to block AI bots that scrape creators’ work for model training without permission. Patreon said scraping tools have grown more sophisticated, raising fresh concerns among publishers and independent creators about ownership, consent and compensation.
