TravelTravelTravelling economy doesn't have to be all doom and gloom, as this airline is set to upgrade a selection of its economy seats by the end of 2026 with a 'game-changing' headrest16:15, 23 Jul 2026There's nothing worse than being faced with a long flight in an uncomfortable seat, but unfortunately it's something most of us will be all-too-familiar with when booking economy flights. However, one airline is looking to make the experience that little bit more luxurious for passengers, by making a key change to economy class headrests, with passengers' comfort in mind. Emirates has revealed what it says is 'world first' in aviation, as they look to introduce what they're calling the U-Dream headrest in economy class. The new seat addition will enable customers to experience a new level of comfort without having to upgrade an entire class. Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, said: "Emirates never rests on its laurels when it comes to customer experience, and we have found a way to significantly improve the comfort for Economy Class passengers, especially those travelling long-haul. "The U-Dream changes the game if the person wants to sleep by supporting the neck in full. No more neck pillows needed. It’s another innovation that shows our commitment to customers and cements our Economy Class as the best. "The U-Dream is a new and improved multi-way adjustable headrest that allows for full neck and head support in your seat and is set to be incorporated into a number of planes. The new Emirates Economy Class seats can be expected to be seen across all Emirates A350s and most of its Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s. As part of the innovation, the leather U-Dream headrest is padded and features flexible side wings – these can be folded inwards to help cradle the neck. In turn, passengers can sit comfortably in a sleeping position and prevent their heads from falling. Bearing in mind that passengers can come in all shapes and sizes, the headrest is designed specifically to enable flexibility to move vertically and align with differing heights. From a health and safety point of view, the airline reports that it has been meticulously tested, and customers are already reporting that it is easy to use. As for cleanliness, the headrest was intentionally designed to be wiped down and cleaned after every flight with ease. According to Emirates, in collaboration with Safran Seats, all Emirates’ A350 aircraft are set to have the new and improved headrests installed by the end of the year. As well as this, it can be expected to be seen pre-installed on all 270 Boeing 777Xs that the airline has ordered.
