Neo Energy Metals PLCsaw its shares rise 8% following a significant regulatory milestone in its acquisition of the New Beisa Node mining rights in South Africa. The South African government has granted Sibanye-Stillwater the necessary ministerial consent to transfer the Southern Free State mining right, marking the first of three crucial approvals required for Neo Energy Metals to complete the acquisition. This approval is a vital step forward, as Sibanye-Stillwater simultaneously processes applications to separate the New Beisa Node from its larger Beatrix mining operation. The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources in Pretoria is currently reviewing these administrative requests, which must be finalized before the mining rights can be officially transferred to Neo Energy Metals. Neo Energy Metals has already completed its own regulatory transfer application and stands ready to submit it as soon as the department approves the separation applications. This progress follows a mutual extension agreement signed in June 2026, which pushed the current government approval deadline to December 2026 and extended the final ownership transfer deadline to June 2027. Further accelerating the project, Neo Energy Metals signed a site access agreement with Sibanye-Stillwater in July 2026, allowing immediate physical entry to the mining area. This access enables the company to conduct a comprehensive, self-funded assessment of technical and operational readiness, with all project planning continuing safely and without interruption. The board remains focused on achieving first commercial gold production by December 2027, with commercial uranium production scheduled to follow immediately after. The recent government consent reflects positive engagement with regulators and supports ongoing efforts to advance technical preparations during this access period. Neo Energy Metals emphasizes that the timeline for commercial production will depend on the outcomes of the current operational assessments, but the company remains on track to meet its strategic objectives.
