Kwadaso MCE cuts sod for 24-Hour Economy Market project - Adomonline. com

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwadaso, Eric Assibey, has cut the sod for the construction of the municipality’s 24-Hour Economy Market, describing it as a major milestone in implementing the government’s flagship 24-hour economy policy. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Assibey said the market is being developed as a modern business hub that will support round-the-clock commercial activities and drive economic growth in the municipality. According to him, the project goes beyond a conventional marketplace, as it will include a police station, banking centre, clinic and other essential facilities to support traders and ensure the smooth operation of businesses at all hours. He explained that the government’s 24-hour economy policy will introduce a three-shift working system aimed at increasing productivity across various sectors, with dedicated markets providing businesses with a conducive environment to operate day and night. “This is not an ordinary market. Unlike other markets that close at a specific time, this facility will operate 24 hours when completed,” he said. Mr Assibey expressed confidence that the project would create jobs, improve trading conditions and stimulate local economic development while positioning Kwadaso as a key commercial hub in the Ashanti Region. “It will serve as the hub for business under the 24-Hour Economy. It will create jobs, expand trade and foster social interaction. The multi-purpose market will also position Kwadaso as a key commercial hub in the Ashanti Region. We are therefore grateful to President Mahama for initiating this project,” he stated. He added that as productivity increases under the three-shift system, businesses would have a safe and well-equipped facility to operate around the clock, boosting trade and economic activity in the municipality. Mr Assibey disclosed that the contractor has been given 36 months to complete and hand over the project to the assembly. He also assured residents that the government, through the Ministry of Local Government, has made the necessary funding available and is ready to release the funds to enable construction to begin. The MCE further directed the contractor to prioritise local employment by ensuring that 70% of the workforce is recruited from within the municipality to help address unemployment in the area. Meanwhile, the contractor, EMMAKS Construction Works Limited, says it intends to complete the project within 24 months instead of the stipulated 36 months, subject to favourable conditions. Managing Director of the company, Engineer Michael Amankwah, said timely delivery remains the company’s hallmark and assured that the project would be executed to the highest quality standards. He also appealed to residents and traditional authorities to support the contractor throughout the construction period.
