Finance MinisterDr Cassiel Ato Forsonhas declared that Ghana is on a path of economic recovery and progress, insisting that the country will continue moving forward under President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership. Speaking during the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on Thursday, July 23, Dr Forson said the government’s focus is to create jobs, generate wealth and build an economy driven by local production. “We must create jobs, generate wealth and grow on the strength of what Ghana produces,” he said. The Finance Minister said economic stability requires consistent commitment, discipline and responsible management of public resources rather than short-term achievements. He noted that the government’s responsibility is not only to celebrate economic gains but also to protect them for future generations. “Our responsibility now is not merely to celebrate these gains, but to preserve them for future generations,” Dr Forson stated. Dr Forson said Ghana’s economic transformation depends on prudent financial management, fiscal discipline and accountability. “Economic stability is not an event. It is a duty, renewed every day through prudent stewardship, fiscal discipline and unwavering accountability,” he added. He assured Ghanaians that the government would remain transparent about the country’s economic situation and avoid hiding challenges or overstating achievements. According to the Finance Minister, rebuilding confidence in the economy requires honesty and trust between government and citizens. “Truth is about trust. And trust is about the truth. Truth must remain the foundation of sound economic management,” he said. Dr Forson concluded his presentation by expressing confidence in Ghana’s future, saying the country would continue to make progress through collective effort. “Ghana is not going back. Under the leadership of His Excellency President Mahama and with the determination of the Ghanaian people, Ghana is moving forward — steadily, honestly and together,” he told Parliament.
