Bursztyn Unity Nearly Ready as POLSCA Logo Appears on Hull - Poland at Sea - maritime economy portal

The new ferryBursztyn Unityis now 99 percent complete and undergoing final acceptance checks ahead of sea trials. Workers are putting the finishing touches on the hull paintwork, including the large-format POLSCA logo along the vessel’s sides. Once this work is finished, the ferry will be prepared for sea trials scheduled for the turn of August and September. Until yesterday,Bursztyn Unitywas still in dock, where crews completed work on the underwater part of the hull, finishing the exterior paintwork and renewing the anti-fouling coating on the ship’s bottom. One of the most striking stages of the project has been applying the POLSCA logo to the ferry’s sides — an impressively large undertaking, with the tallest letter standing 16 meters high. Painting a logo of this scale is a precise, multi-step process: a surveying company first marks out the exact contours of the letters on the hull, the surface is then masked with painter’s tape to define crisp, even edges, and finally the letters are painted before the tape is removed to reveal the finished logo — now one of the vessel’s most distinctive features. The ferry has been towed to the quay, where it will undergo weighing and an inclining test, followed by preparations for sea trials scheduled from August 31 to September 7. This will be one of the most important stages before the ferry is handed over to its owner. The trials will check the vessel’s technical parameters and the performance of its key systems under conditions close to actual operation. Construction work is now essentially complete, and only minor corrective adjustments are expected following the trials, if any. Handover ofBursztyn Unityto its owner is planned for mid-October, with the final date depending on the trial results. If the trials proceed without major issues, the ferry will move into the next stage of its history on schedule. “The construction and commissioning of successive ferries is part of a consistently pursued strategy for developing the Polish ferry fleet. Bursztyn, like Jantar before it, is an example of investment in modern, safe and more efficient vessels that meet the needs of passengers and the Baltic shipping market. We are growing the fleet in a planned, long-term way, building the foundation for the future of Polish ferry shipping,”saidPaweł Pluto-Prądzyński, President of the Management Board of POLSCA Baltic Ferries. Bursztynis a sister vessel to the ferryJantar Unity, which has been running regular Baltic services since January this year. Together, the two ships represent a major renewal of Poland’s ferry fleet — modern passenger-and-car ferries designed with safety, passenger comfort and operational efficiency in mind. The fleet of new ferries will continue to grow in the coming years. In 2029,Jantar UnityandBursztyn Unitywill be joined by a third vessel, the ferryAmber Unity, rounding out the series of modern ships built to serve Baltic routes. The ferry was built byRemontowa Shiprepair YardS. A. , part of the Remontowa Holding group.
